I think the Commissioner Gordon dying thing was in the previous Batman movie if I'm not mistaken. But yes that was Gary Oldman.

No, it was The Dark Knight. He got hit by an assassin's bullet intended for the mayor, then reappeared in the movie about 20 minutes later with no explanation or exposition whatsoever for how that happened.

Heath Ledger was good but I still thought the real acting prowess went to Gary Oldman and Chritian Bale. I think as an actor it's easy to be crazy. He did a great job but no better then Jack Nicholson...just scarier makeup.

I LOVED the Dark Night...I thought it was fabulous!

I think Ledger was better than Nicholson ... OK, maybe not a lot better. But I think he was just a better actor than Nicholson. You're right, though, it's pretty easy to act crazy.

But I thought The Dark Knight was over-hyped, and underwhelming. Bale's performance left me yawning, and the storyline was incomprehensible.

But that's probably just me. I'm the type that likes to have the screenplay all make sense, all fit together like a big jigsaw puzzle where the last piece snaps into place as the curtain falls, and everyone agrees on what happened. After two viewings, I'm still baffled by who did what to whom and why. Especially the 'why'. That's why I didn't like it. Poor screenplay. OK, OK, I know you disagree. Smile

Oh yeah I totally forgot about that. That was kind of weird. I think I need to watch it again.

Oh and isn't Michael Caine great too?

Yes, Caine was good. In fact that reminds me, he should have made at least honorable mention on my list. He's been great in a lot of things, going back many years. Did you ever see Sleuth? (the 1972 version). I need to watch that again. I remember being amazed by Caine's performance in that. But it's been many years since I saw it, so I don't remember specifics.

Yeah he has been in a lot of great movies. I didn't see Slueth but I did love him in the original Alfie and I think he was in the original Italian Job as well.

But Jaws IV? Vomit.

Actresses:

1. Nicole Kidman - she's been in some bad movies lately but she is really really good.
2. Jessica Lange - ever see Blue Sky? Amazing!
3. Vivien Leigh
4. Donna Reed
5. Glenn Close
6. Judy Garland - I love old musicals and she had the best voice ever
7. Barbra Streisand - 2nd best voice ever and an amazing actress and director, if a little ego maniacal
8. Julia Roberts - I know it's lame but she is the chick flick queen, especially the early 90's stuff
9. Sally Field - I don't know her much from movies but she is great on tv
10.Jodie Foster

t/s1, when I give this more thought, I'm shocked at how "B list" all of my favorite actresses are. None of the real big names, Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster etc.. do a whole lot for me in terms of their acting or off screen persona.

I'd have on my list, women like:

Lili Taylor, Michelle Yeoh, Nicole Ari Parker, Annabella Sciorra..women like that.

And in my actors and actresses I guess what I'm saying is, that if I hear they are in a movie I consider going to see it, or if I run across them on television I always stop to see what they are in, and if I might like it.

Also, I don't know about your list, but whether I like the people personally (as they appear to be personally in the media I mean) plays a role in some of who is one my lists. Like if I didn't REALLY like Jami Foxx's personality, I'm not sure he would be on my list. Same for Don Cheadle. And same for Michelle Yeoh.

So I think my lists would be different, if I strictly limited myself to my honest, objective appraisal, of how well these folks act.

p.s. Two more I'd add to my lists. Eric Roberts (Julia's brother who I saw at the FilmIndependent Spirit Awards yesterday) and Yancy Butler.

I love Lily Taylor too. She was in one of my favorite movies of all time "Mystic Pizza." (How's that for a chick flick!)

I know what you mean on the personalities. I think if someone was a real jerk in real life it's harder to like them in any role. Case in point, Sean Penn! There is no question he is a great actor but I just can't look at him without thinking "jerk jerk jerk."

I think we discussed something like this once before when we were talking about reality show contestants, like on DWTS. They have to have a great attitude or they get eliminated regardless of their dancing ability, like Tatum O'Neill.

Exactly or like Heather Mills. I still don't think she improved her image on DWTS.

I've never seen much of Mystic Pizza. But isn't a young Julia Roberts in that movie? I flipped by it on television before, but never stopped to actually watch it all. Too "chick flick" for me I guess. lol

But I will get into a chick flick every now and then. Ever see a romantic movie called, "Mr. Wonderful." I used to love that thing. Mainly I think because Annabella Sciorra, and Matt Dillon, two of my favs were in it.

p.s. You ever see Lili Taylor in "Who Shot Andy Warhol?" She kills me in that! lol

It was Julia Roberts second movie (and features a cameo from Matt Damon in his first role as well I think.)

Another great Lili Taylor role was in Ransom. That was a great movie.

Is that right? Matt Damon too, huh? I'm going to have to check Mystic Pizza out. If I can stand the "girly-ness" of it. lol

You know I a haven't see "Ransom" yet. And that's an old movie. ('96 my memory tells me.) I'll have to check it out as well.

You know the earliest Julia Roberts I've ever seen, is her in an episode of the t.v. show Miami Vice. (Were you ever born when that show came on t/s? lol j/k) I loved that show, and watched it religiously in the 80s, and I saw so many stars for the first time on it. Ving Rhames. Garcelle Beauvais. Maybe even Bruce Willis. (I think, not sure, he did Vice before he had the show with Cybil Sheppard.)

That cheesy cop show, believe it or not, helped launched a lot of stars.

Remember Mykelti Williamson, "Bubba" from Forrest Gump? The earliest place I ever saw him, was on Miami Vice as well.

How's all that for a tangent? lol

I did recently read that Julia Roberts was on Miami Vice but I've never seen that episode. I don't think we watched that show because it might have been a little "racy" for us at that age, but I'm embarrassed to say that not only did I have the Miami Vice soundtrack on cassette, but I also had Don Johnson's album (Heartbeat...looking for a heartbeat...) AND Phillip Michael Thomas' album which I can't remember the name of but I liked at the time.

Hey...I was 12.

Oh and for sure see "Ransom". It's very surprising. I loved it.

Give Mystic Pizza a try. It's for sure chick flickish, but Roger Ebert loved it!

LMAO. Oh, that is so hilarious. I didn't even know "Rico Tubbs" ever put out an album.

Oh yes, the foolishness of youth. lol

Lili Taylor? I saw Ransom and I remember Rene Russo but Lili Taylor must have been one of the villains, with Gary Sinese?

I loved Philadelphia, I thought both Denzel and Hanks were great but Hanks won the Oscar, correct? I didn't have a problem with that but the funny thing was when Denzel won the Oscar, I hated that movie, and I can't even recall the name but I know, Denzel was the bad guy and maybe that was it but I just did not like that movie. He played a bad cop I think.

I have always, ALWAYS loved James Garner, maybe mostly because of Rockford, I love that show, but anyone see 36 hours? I love that move too.

Philadelphia had another great actor, Jason Robards, he was wonderful. I have always loved Karl Malden, both Malden and Robards have recently died. How about Joanna Woodward, anyone ever see a great movie called Big Hand For the Little Lady? Her, Robards, Henry Fonda, great movie.

It's weird about some old actors, I recently saw Judgment at Nuremberg and what was the deal with this Montgomery Clift guy? Weird, I know he was troubled but what was he supposed to be ever good in?

Gotta mention Morgan Freeman, I have loved him for years, from the time I first saw him in Brubaker, he was the crazed criminal screaming about wanting his cell painted, and Redford said to paint it 'any f**king color he wants.'
